Internships @ EMBARQ

EMBARQ India is working on various aspects of implementing and improving urban public transport in Indian cities. Though ITS applications have been in use for many years, it is still not a mature market in India. Most implementations of technology in urban public transport are essentially adaptations of systems deployed in freight and logistics industry. This work aims to bridge the gap between the needs of the transit agencies and the solutions provided by ITS vendors such that it allows the bus operating agencies to take full benefit of the systems deployed.

The intern, during the course of the internship, will focus on developing reporting standards for ITS deployments in various public transport agencies in India. He/ she will review existing literature, collect and analyse data and document the following:
  • Various needs of the bus agencies that can be addressed by ITS technologies
  • Reports generated by ITS implementations in various cities across the world
  • Creating templates, formats and visualisations of ITS data for urban transit companies in India
  • Developing ITS procurement guidance
At the end of the internship, the intern will present his work in the form of publications/papers, policy guidance documents or a report and a presentation which will be given to the whole team.

  • Currently pursuing; or recently completed a Master’s degree in automobile engineering, physics, environmental engineering or transport engineering/planning.
  • Excellent technical writing skills in English
  • Experience of publishing papers/articles in prominent conferences/journals.
  • Prior experience with bus technologies and/or emission norms will be a plus.
